Sunan an-Nasai 923 (Book 11, Hadith 48) #15531
Recitation in Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was asked if reciting in every prayer is obligatory and he said yes. Abu Ad-Darda then clarified that if the Imam leads the people, that is sufficient for them.

Kathir bin Murrah Al-Hadrami narrated that : He heard Abu Ad-Darda say: "The Messenger of Allah was asked: 'Is there recitation in every prayer?' He said: 'Yes'. A man among the Ansar said: 'Is that obligatory?' He (Abu Ad-Darda) turned to me (Kathir), as I was closest of the people to him, and said: 'I think that if the Imam leads the people, that is sufficient for them'."

However, Abu Ad-Darda clarified that if the Imam leads the people, then this is sufficient for them. This hadith teaches us about how important it is to recite during our prayers and how we should follow our Imams when they lead us in prayer as this will be enough for us to fulfill our obligations as Muslims. It also teaches us about how important it is to listen carefully when someone speaks so we can understand what they are saying correctly and not misinterpret their words or intentions.
