Sunan an-Nasai 870 (Book 10, Hadith 94) #15478
Avoiding Distraction in Prayer

SUMMARY: Allah knows the intentions of those who try to avoid distraction in prayer and those who are distracted.

It was narrated that Ibn Abbas said: "There was a woman who used to pray behind the Messenger of Allah who was beautiful, one of the most beautiful of people. Some of the people used to go to the front row to avoid seeing her, and some used to go to the back row so that when they bowed they could see her from beneath their armpits. Then Allah revealed the words: 'To Us are known those of you who hasten forward and those who lag behind".

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for concentration during prayers; Worship God properly; Remember that Allah knows your intentions even if you don’t succeed in avoiding distractions all the time

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of avoiding distractions during prayer. It was narrated by Ibn Abbas that there was a woman who used to pray behind the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and she was very beautiful. Some people would go to the front row so they wouldn't have to look at her, while others would go to the back row so they could see her from beneath their armpits when they bowed down for prayer. Then Allah revealed a verse from the Quran which said that He knows those of us who try our best not to be distracted and those of us who are easily distracted during prayer. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive for concentration during our prayers and not let anything distract us from worshipping Allah properly. We should also remember that Allah knows our intentions even if we don't succeed in avoiding distractions all the time, so we shouldn't feel ashamed or embarrassed if we do get distracted sometimes.
