Sunan an-Nasai 862 (Book 10, Hadith 86) #15470
Stealing is Wrong

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ was hastening to pray Maghrib and scolded someone for stealing a Namirah.

It was narrated that Abu Rafi said: "After the Messenger of Allah had prayed Asr, he would go to Banu 'Abdul-Ashhal to speak to them, until the time for Maghrib came". Abu Rafi said: "While the Prophet was hastening to pray Maghrib, we passed by and he said: 'Fie on you, fie on you!' That upset me so I slowed down because I thought hat he meant me. He said: 'What is the matter with you? Keep up!' I said: 'Is there something wrong?' He said: 'Why are you asking that? I said: 'Because you said: "Fie on you" to me'. He said: 'No, that was so-and-so whom I had sent to collect Zakat from the tribe of so-and-so, and he stole a Namirah and now he is clothed with something similar made of Fire"'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Do not steal
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of not stealing. It was narrated by Abu Rafi that after the Messenger of Allah had prayed Asr, he went to Banu 'Abdul-Ashhal to speak with them until it was time for Maghrib prayer. While the Prophet was hurrying to pray Maghrib, he scolded someone saying "Fie on you!" which made Abu Rafi think that he meant him so he slowed down. The Prophet then asked what was wrong and when Abu Rafi asked why he said "Fie on you", the Prophet explained that it wasn't him but rather someone else who had stolen a Namirah from a tribe while collecting Zakat and now wore something similar made of fire instead. This hadith teaches us that stealing is wrong and should be avoided at all costs as it has serious consequences. We should also be careful not to accuse people without knowing all the facts first as this could lead to misunderstandings or hurt feelings.
