Respect for the Imam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad warned that those who disrespect the Imam by raising their heads before him will be punished by Allah.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "Muhammad said: 'Does the one who raises his head before the Imam not fear that Allah may turn his head into the head of a donkey?"'
أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ ‏ "‏ أَلاَ يَخْشَى الَّذِي يَرْفَعُ رَأْسَهُ قَبْلَ الإِمَامِ أَنْ يُحَوِّلَ اللَّهُ رَأْسَهُ رَأْسَ حِمَارٍ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about respecting the Imam, or leader of a community. The Prophet Muhammad warned that those who disrespect the Imam by raising their heads before him will be punished by Allah. He said that if someone does not show respect to the leader, they should fear that Allah may turn their head into a donkey's head as punishment. This hadith teaches us to always show respect and humility towards our leaders and elders, no matter what our differences may be. We should also remember to fear Allah and His punishments when we are tempted to act in a disrespectful manner towards others.
