Sunan an-Nasai 801 (Book 10, Hadith 25) #15409
Prayer Before Eating

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was invited to eat food by an old woman, and he responded by leading her and two others in prayer.

It was narrated from Anas bin Malik, that his grandmother Mulaikah invited the Messenger of Allah to come and eat some food that she had prepared for him. Then he said: "Get up and I will lead you in prayer". Anas said: "So I got up and brought a reed mat of ours that had turned black from long use, and spreaded some water on it. The Messenger of Allah stood and the orphan and I stood in a row behind him, and the old woman stood behind us, and he led us in praying two Rak'ahs, then he left".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of prayer before eating. It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that his grandmother Mulaikah invited the Messenger of Allah to come and eat some food that she had prepared for him. Instead of immediately eating, the Prophet Muhammad led them in prayer first. He spread a reed mat on the ground and they all stood in a row behind him as he prayed two Rak'ahs. This hadith teaches us that we should always remember to pray before we partake in any activity or meal, no matter how small it may be. We should also be mindful of our elders and show them respect by responding positively to their invitations or requests whenever possible.
