Sunan an-Nasai 707 (Book 8, Hadith 20) #15315
Avoiding Garlic, Onions and Leeks in Masjids

SUMMARY: Eating garlic, onions and leeks should be avoided when entering a Masjid as it offends the angels.

It was narrated that Jabir said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever eats of this plant' - the first time he said 'garlic' then he said, 'garlic, onions and leeks' 1 - 'let him not approach us in our Masjids, for the angels are offended by that which offends mankind'." 1 In Fath, Al-Bari, Ibn Hajar is of the opinion that it was Ibn Juraij who was talking, explaining that 'Ata' - who reported it from Jabir - narrated it both ways.

Show respect & consideration towards those around you both physically & spiritually
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about avoiding eating garlic, onions and leeks before entering a masjid. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that these foods offend the angels so it is best to avoid them when going to a masjid. It is important to remember that we should always show respect for the places of worship by being mindful of our actions and words. We should also be aware of how our actions can affect others around us, including those who are not present in person but whose presence we can still feel spiritually.

The values taught in this hadith include respect for places of worship, consideration for others’ feelings, and mindfulness of one’s own actions. We must remember that even though we may not see or hear them directly, there are spiritual beings around us at all times who can be affected by our behavior. Therefore it is important to always act with respect and consideration towards those around us both physically and spiritually.
