The Prophet's Night Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) prayed eleven Rak'ahs including Witr, then he slept deeply until Bilal woke him up to lead the people in prayer, and he did not perform Wudu'.

It was narrated from Makhramah bin Sulaiman that Kuraib - the freed slave of Ibn 'Abbas - told him: "I asked Ibn 'Abbas: 'How did the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W) pray at night?' He said: 'He prayed eleven Rak'ahs including Witr, then he slept deeply until I could hear him snoring, then Bilal came to him and said: "The prayer, O Messenger of Allah!" Then he got up and prayed two brief Rak'ahs then led the people in prayer, and he did not perform Wudu''."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates how the beloved prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to pray at night. He would pray eleven rak’ahs including witr and then sleep deeply until Bilal came to wake him up for prayer again. He would then get up and pray two brief rak’ahs before leading the people in prayer without performing wudu’ first. This hadith teaches us that we should be devoted to our prayers even at night when we are tired from a long day of work or school; it also shows us that we should be punctual with our prayers as well as being mindful of them even when we are tired or sleepy so that they do not become a burden on us but rather an act of worship that brings us closer to Allah SWT .
