The Sanctity of Mecca

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) declared that Mecca is a sanctuary and its resources should not be taken without permission.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: On the Day of the Conquest of Mecca, Allah's Messenger said, "Allah has made this town a sanctuary. Its thorny bushes should not be cut, its game should not be chased, and its fallen things should not be picked up except by one who would announce it publicly".

EXPLANATIONS:
On the day of the conquest of Mecca, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) declared that it was a sacred place and its resources should not be taken without permission. This hadith teaches us to respect the sanctity of places and to not take what does not belong to us. It also teaches us to ask for permission before taking something from another person or place. We must remember that Allah has made this town a sanctuary and we must treat it as such by respecting its boundaries and resources. We must also remember that we are all responsible for protecting our environment from harm or exploitation.
