Learning the Adhan and Iqamah

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) taught Abu Mahdhurah the Adhan and Iqamah with nineteen and seventeen phrases respectively, which Abu Mahdhurah then counted.

It was narrated from Abu Mahdhurah that the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W) taught him the Adhan with nineteen phrases and the Iqamah with seventeen phrases, then Abu Mahdhurah counted them as nineteen and seventeen.
أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ يَحْيَى، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ، حَدَّثَنَا مَكْحُولٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَيْرِيزٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مَحْذُورَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ ‏ "‏ الأَذَانُ تِسْعُ عَشْرَةَ كَلِمَةً وَالإِقَامَةُ سَبْعُ عَشْرَةَ كَلِمَةً ‏"‏ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ عَدَّهَا أَبُو مَحْذُورَةَ تِسْعَ عَشْرَةَ كَلِمَةً وَسَبْعَ عَشْرَةَ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad teaching his companion, Abu Mahdhurah, how to perform the call for prayer known as adhan and its response known as iqamah. The adhan consists of nineteen phrases while the iqamah consists of seventeen phrases. After being taught by the Prophet Muhammad, Abu Mahdhurah counted them both as nineteen and seventeen respectively. This hadith teaches us that it is important for Muslims to learn how to properly perform their prayers according to Islamic teachings in order for them to be accepted by Allah SWT. It also teaches us that we should pay attention when learning something new so that we can remember it correctly later on in life.
