Actions Most Beloved to Allah

SUMMARY: Prayer, honoring parents and Jihad in the cause of Allah are the most beloved actions to Allah.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud said: "I asked the Messenger of Allah which action is most beloved to Allah? He said: 'Establishing prayer on time, honoring one's parents and Jihad in the cause of Allah'."
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ النَّخَعِيُّ، سَمِعَهُ مِنْ أَبِي عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَىُّ الْعَمَلِ أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَالَ ‏ "‏ إِقَامُ الصَّلاَةِ لِوَقْتِهَا وَبِرُّ الْوَالِدَيْنِ وَالْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the actions that are most beloved to Allah. According to Abdullah bin Mas'ud, he asked the Messenger of Allah which action is most beloved to Him and was told that it was praying on time, honoring one's parents and jihad in the cause of Allah. Praying on time means fulfilling one's religious obligation by performing prayers at their designated times throughout each day. Honoring one's parents means showing respect for them through words and deeds as well as providing for them if they need help or support. Lastly, jihad in the cause of Allah refers to striving hard for a noble purpose such as defending Islam or helping those who are oppressed or persecuted. All these actions demonstrate a person’s commitment towards pleasing God and doing good deeds which will be rewarded by Him in this life and hereafter.
