Sunan an-Nasai 502 (Book 6, Hadith 9) #15110
Timings of Five Daily Prayers

SUMMARY: This hadith explains the timings of the five daily prayers and how they should be performed.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah said: This is 'Jibril, peace be upon you, he came to teach you your religion. He prayed Subh when the dawn appeared, and he prayed Zuhr when the sun had (passed its zenith), and he prayed 'Asr when he saw that the shadow of a thing was equal to its height, then he prayed Maghrib when the sub had set and it is permissible for the fasting person to eat. Then he prayed 'Isha' when the twilight had disappeared. Then he came to him the following day and prayed Subh when it had got a little lighter, then he prayed Zuhr when the shadow of a thing was equal to its height, then he prayed 'Asr when the shadow of a thing was equal to twice its height, then he prayed Maghrib at the same time as before, then he prayed 'Isha' when a short period of the night had passed. Then he said: 'The prayer is between the times when you prayed yesterday and the times when you prayed today'."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the timings of the five daily prayers that Muslims must perform. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that these prayers should be done at specific times throughout the day. The first prayer is Subh which is done when dawn appears. Then comes Zuhr which is prayed when the sun has passed its zenith. After this comes ‘Asr which should be prayed when a shadow of an object is equal to its height. Then comes Maghrib which should be prayed when the sun has set and it’s permissible for fasting people to eat again. Lastly comes ‘Isha’ which should be prayed after twilight has disappeared from view. The following day he taught us that we must pray Subh a little earlier than before and then pray Zuhr when a shadow of an object was equal to its height again but for ‘Asr we must wait until a shadow was twice as long as its height before praying it and then pray Maghrib at same time as before followed by ‘Isha’ after a short period in night had passed by. This hadith teaches us about how important it is to follow Allah's commands and perform our religious duties on time with dedication and sincerity so that we can gain His blessings in this life and hereafter too!
