Sahih al-Bukhari 1566 (Book 25, Hadith 52) #1503
Completing the Ihram After 'Umra

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) explains why he has not finished his Ihram after performing 'Umra, as he has matted his hair and garlanded his Hadi and will not finish his Ihram until he has slaughtered it.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: Hafsa the wife of the Prophet said, "O Allah's Messenger ! Why have the people finished their Ihram after performing 'Umra but you have not finished your Ihram after performing 'Umra?" He replied, "I have matted my hair and garlanded my Hadi. So I will not finish my Ihram till I have slaughtered (my Hadi)".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of completing the rituals of Hajj or Umrah. It was narrated by Ibn Umar that Hafsa, the wife of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ asked him why people had finished their ihraam after performing Umrah but he hadn't yet. He replied that he had matted his hair and garlanded his Hadi, so he would not finish his ihraam until he had slaughtered it. This teaches us that we must complete all our religious obligations in order to be successful in our worship.
