The Prophet's Method of Performing Ghusl

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to perform Ghusl with a Mudd and Ghusl with approximately a Sa'.

It was narrated from 'Aishah that the Messenger of Allah used to perform Ghusl with a Mudd and Ghusl with approximately a Sa'.
أَخْبَرَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْكُوفِيُّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ سُلَيْمَانَ - عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ شَيْبَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَانَ يَتَوَضَّأُ بِمُدٍّ وَيَغْتَسِلُ بِنَحْوِ الصَّاعِ

EXPLANATIONS:
Ghusl is an Islamic ritual bath that is performed for purification. It is one of the five pillars of Islam and it must be done before performing certain religious activities such as prayer or Hajj. According to this hadith narrated by 'Aishah, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to perform Ghusl with a Mudd and approximately a Sa'. A Mudd is an Arabic unit of measurement which equals about 0.5 liters while a Sa' equals about 3 kilograms. This hadith teaches us that we should follow the example set by our beloved Prophet in all aspects of life including performing rituals such as Ghusl in order to gain Allah's blessings and mercy.
