Clothing for Muhrims

SUMMARY: A man asked the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) what kind of clothes should a Muhrim wear and the Prophet (ﷺ) replied with instructions on what to wear and not to wear.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: A man asked, "O Allah's Messenger ! What kind of clothes should a Muhrim wear?" Allah's Messenger replied, "He should not wear a shirt, a turban, trousers, a headcloak or leather socks except if he can find no slippers, he then may wear leather socks after cutting off what might cover the ankles. And he should not wear clothes which are scented with saffron or Wars (kinds of Perfumes) ".

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow the instructions given by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ regarding clothing while in Ihram
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about clothing for those who are in a state of Ihram. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ instructed that when in this state one should not wear certain items such as shirts, turbans, trousers or leather socks. He also said that one should not use any perfumes scented with saffron or Wars. If slippers cannot be found then leather socks can be worn but they must be cut off at the ankles so as not to cover them. These instructions are important because it is necessary for those in Ihram to remain clean and free from anything which may distract them from their spiritual journey. It is also important to remember that these instructions were given by the Prophet ﷺ himself and therefore must be followed carefully if we wish to gain reward from Allah SWT.
