The Importance of Wudu

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of performing wudu even if one has not committed any Hadath.

An-Nazzal bin Sabrah said: "I saw 'Ali (may Allah be please with him) praying Zuhr, then he sat to tend to the people's needs, and when the time for 'Asr came, a vessel of water was brought to him. He took a handful of it and wiped his face, forearms, head and feet with it, then he took what was left and drank standing up. He said: 'People dislike this, but I saw the Messenger of Allah doing it. This is the Wudu' of one who has not committed Hadath".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of performing wudu even if one has not committed any Hadath. It was narrated by An-Nazzal bin Sabrah who saw Ali ibn Abi Talib perform wudu in a certain way. He took a handful of water and wiped his face, forearms, head and feet with it before drinking what was left standing up. Ali said that people usually dislike this method but he saw Prophet Muhammad doing it himself so he followed suit. This shows us that we should follow the example set by Prophet Muhammad in all aspects of our lives as Muslims and strive to emulate him in our actions and deeds.
