Sunan an-Nasai 74 (Book 1, Hadith 74) #14680
The Prophet's Wudu'

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ performed Wudu' and was given a vessel with two-thirds of a Mudd. He washed his forearms and wiped the inside of his ear, but it is not known if he wiped the outside.

It was narrated from Shu'bah that Habib said: "I heard 'Abbad bin Tamim narrate from my grandmother - who was Umm 'Umarah bint Ka'b - that the Prophet performed Wudu', and he was brought a vessel in which there were two-thirds of a Mudd". Shu'bah said: "I remember that he washed his forearms and started rubbing them, and he wiped the inside of his ear, but I do not remember whether he wiped the outside of them".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates an incident in which the Prophet Muhammad performed ablution or wudu'. A vessel containing two-thirds of a mudd was brought to him and he washed his forearms and wiped the inside of his ear. It is not known whether he also wiped the outside of his ears or not. This hadith teaches us that we should follow in the footsteps of our beloved prophet by performing wudu', which is an important part of Islamic ritual prayer. We should also strive to be clean at all times as this is one way to show respect for Allah's commands. Additionally, this hadith shows us that even though we may not know everything about our religion, we can still learn from what has been passed down to us through generations so that we can live according to Allah's will.
