Supplication for the Deceased

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) supplicated to Allah for the deceased, asking for forgiveness and mercy, and to cleanse them of their sins.

'Awf bin Malik said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah offering the (funeral) prayer for one who had died, and I heard him say in his supplication: 'Allahummaghfir lahu warhamhu wa 'afihi was a'fu 'anhu, wa akrim nuzulahu wa wassi' ,adkhalahu waghsilhu bil-ma'i wath-thalji wal-baradi wa naqqihi min al-khataya kama ynaqqath-thawb al-abyad min ad-danas. (O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, keep him safe and sound and forgive him, honor the place where he settles and make his entrance wide; wash him with water and snow and hail, and cleanse him of sin as a white garment is cleansed of dirt)".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's supplication for a deceased person. He asked Allah to forgive them, have mercy on them, keep them safe and sound, honor their place of settlement, make their entrance wide, wash them with water and snow and hail, and cleanse them of sin as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. This hadith teaches us that we should always remember those who have passed away in our prayers. We should ask Allah to forgive their sins so they can be granted peace in the afterlife. It also reminds us that death is inevitable; no matter how much we try to avoid it or deny it will come one day. Therefore we must always strive to do good deeds so that when our time comes we can be forgiven by Allah too.
