Greeting Etiquette in Islam

SUMMARY: A man greeted the Prophet ﷺ while he was urinating, but the Prophet did not return his greeting.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: "A man passed by the Prophet when he was urinating and greeted him with Salam, but he did not return his greeting".
أَخْبَرَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ، حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ، وَقَبِيصَةُ، قَالاَ أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ مَرَّ رَجُلٌ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمَ

EXPLANATIONS:
According to this hadith, it is important to be mindful of one's etiquette when greeting someone. Even though the man in this hadith was being polite by offering a salutation, it was inappropriate for him to do so while the Prophet was urinating. This teaches us that we should always be aware of our surroundings and respect other people's privacy before engaging in any kind of interaction with them. Furthermore, it also shows us that we should always be mindful of our manners and etiquette when interacting with others regardless of their status or position.
