Sunan an-Nasai 21 (Book 1, Hadith 21) #14627
Proper Etiquette for Relieving Oneself

SUMMARY: It is not appropriate to face the Qiblah or turn your back towards it when relieving oneself. Instead, one should face east or west.

It was narrated from Abu Ayyub that the Prophet said: "Do not face towards the Qiblah nor turn your backs toward it when defecating or urinating, rather face toward the east or the west".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respectfully follow proper etiquette when relieving oneself by facing east or west instead of facing towards or turning away from the Qiblalh .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith from Abu Ayyub teaches us proper etiquette when relieving oneself. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ instructed us not to face the Qiblah nor turn our backs towards it while doing so, but rather to face east or west instead. This shows us that we should be mindful of our actions and respect the sanctity of the Qiblah, which is a symbol of unity for Muslims all over the world. We can also learn from this hadith that even in seemingly mundane activities such as going to the bathroom, we should still strive for excellence and maintain a sense of decorum and respectfulness in all aspects of life.
