Trimming Mustache as a Sign of Belonging

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that trimming one's mustache is a sign of being part of the Muslim community.

It was narrated that Zaid bin Arqam said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever does not trim his mustache, he is not from one of us'."
أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ مَنْ لَمْ يَأْخُذْ شَارِبَهُ فَلَيْسَ مِنَّا
