Sahih Muslim 3023a (Book 56, Hadith 19) #14598
Punishment for Intentional Killing of Believers

SUMMARY: Killing another believer intentionally is a grave sin and will be punished in Hell.

Sa'id b. Jubair reported: The inhabitants of Kufa differed in regard to this verse:" But whoever slays another believer intentionally, his requital shall be Hell" (iv. 92), so I went to Ibn 'Abbas and asked him about it, whereupon he said: This has been revealed and nothing abrogated it.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect human life, Strive to do good deeds instead of bad ones
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the punishment for intentional killing of believers, which was revealed in the Quran. It was reported by Sa'id b. Jubair that the inhabitants of Kufa were confused about this verse, so he went to Ibn 'Abbas and asked him about it. Ibn 'Abbas said that this verse has been revealed and nothing abrogated it, meaning that intentional killing of believers is a grave sin and will be punished in Hell. This hadith teaches us to respect human life and not take it away intentionally as Allah has warned us against such an act with severe punishment in the afterlife. We should also remember that Allah knows our intentions even if we try to hide them from others, so we should always strive to do good deeds instead of bad ones as they will be rewarded accordingly on Judgment Day.
