Sahih Muslim 3030d (Book 56, Hadith 34) #14573
Worshipping Jinn Unknowingly

SUMMARY: This hadith explains how a group of Arabs used to worship jinn, and how the jinn embraced Islam but the people kept worshipping them without being conscious of it.

Abdullah b. Mas'ud said in connection with the verse: " Those whom they call upon, themselves seek the means of access to their Lord," that that verse was revealed in connection with a party of Arabs who used to worship a group amongst the jinn; the jinn embraced Islam but the people kept worshipping them without being conscious of it. Then this verse was revealed:" Those whom they call upon, themselves seek the means of access to their Lord".

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek Allah's mercy & guidance; Love & devote ourselves to Allah; Do not be deceived by false gods or idols

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a group of Arabs who used to worship a group amongst the jinn, without being aware that they were doing so. The jinn eventually embraced Islam, but the people continued to worship them unknowingly. This verse was then revealed in connection with this situation:" Those whom they call upon, themselves seek the means of access to their Lord". In other words, those whom they were worshipping were also seeking Allah's mercy and guidance just like them. This teaches us that we should not be deceived by false gods or idols as Allah is our only true Lord and Creator who deserves all our love and devotion.
