Sahih Muslim 2977a (Book 55, Hadith 43) #14563
Self-Restraint in Eating and Drinking

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the Prophet's ﷺ self-restraint in eating and drinking, even when he was hungry.

Nu'man b. Bashir said: Don't you eat and drink according to your heart's desire, whereas I saw that your Prophet (at times) could not find even an inferior quality of the dates with which he could fill his belly? Qutaiba, however, did not make a mention of It.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet's self-restraint in eating and drinking, even when he was hungry. Nu'man b. Bashir reported that the Prophet would not eat or drink according to his heart's desire, despite being hungry. Qutaiba did not mention this incident specifically but it can be inferred from this hadith that the Prophet showed great restraint even when he was hungry and could not find food of an inferior quality to fill his stomach with. This teaches us a valuable lesson of self-control and moderation in our lives, especially when it comes to food and drink consumption. We should strive to practice moderation so that we do not overindulge ourselves or waste resources unnecessarily.
