Sahih Muslim 2980a (Book 55, Hadith 47) #14471
Respectful Visitation of Punished Places

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of being mindful and respectful when visiting places that have been destroyed by Allah's punishment.

'Abdullah b. Umar reported that Allah's Messenger said in connection with the people of Hijr (Thamud): Do not enter but weepingly (the habitations) of these people who had been punished by (Allah), and in case you do not feel inclined to weep, then do not enter (these habitations) that you may not meet the same calamity as had fallen to their lot.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of showing respect and mindfulness when visiting places that have been destroyed by Allah's punishment. It is important to remember that these places were once inhabited by people who faced a great calamity, and it is important to show respect for their memory. We should enter these places with humility, understanding, and compassion in our hearts so as not to incur the same fate as those who lived there before us. We should also take this opportunity to reflect on our own lives and how we can avoid similar punishments from Allah in the future.
