QUICK LESSONS:
Paying taxes when acquiring wealth from mining activities.
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that if someone is killed or injured due to an animal, falling into a well, or working in mines then there will be no compensation for them. However, it is compulsory to pay the Khums tax on any wealth found from mining activities known as 'Rikaz'. The term 'Khumus' refers to the fifth of the wealth which must be given away as charity and it is obligatory upon Muslims who have acquired wealth beyond their basic needs. The hadith also teaches us that we should not take advantage of people's misfortunes and should instead help those who are suffering from such losses.
