Sahih al-Bukhari 1489 (Book 24, Hadith 89) #1428
The Importance of Charity

SUMMARY: It is important to not take back what you have given in charity, as the Prophet (ﷺ) has forbidden it.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: 'Umar bin Al-Khattab gave a horse in charity in Allah's Cause and later he saw it being sold in the market and intended to purchase it. Then he went to the Prophet and asked his permission. The Prophet said, "Do not take back what you have given in charity". For this reason, Ibn 'Umar never purchased the things which he had given in charity, and in case he had purchased something (unknowingly) he would give it in charity again.

QUICK LESSONS:
Give away whatever you can for Allah's sake without expecting anything in return
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of charity and giving. Umar bin Al-Khattab gave a horse in charity and later saw it being sold in the market. He wanted to buy it back, but he asked for permission from the Prophet ﷺ first. The Prophet said that he should not take back what he had given in charity, so Ibn 'Umar never purchased things which he had given away before. This teaches us that we should be generous with our wealth and give away whatever we can for Allah's sake without expecting anything in return. We should also remember that once something is given away, we shouldn't try to get it back again as this goes against the teachings of Islam.
