Sahih Muslim 2816c (Book 52, Hadith 66) #14165
The Mercy of Allah

SUMMARY: No one can earn their way into Paradise through their deeds alone, but Allah's mercy will grant them entrance.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger as saying: There is none whose deeds alone would entitle him to get into Paradise. It was said to him: And, Allah's Messenger, not even you? Thereupon he said: Not even I, but that my Lord wraps me in Mercy.

QUICK LESSONS:
Rely on God's mercy and forgiveness for salvation; do good deeds; have faith in Islam; appreciate divine grace and compassion.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the mercy of Allah and how it is the only thing that can get us into paradise. It was narrated by Abu Huraira, who reported that Prophet Muhammad said there is no one whose deeds alone would entitle them to enter paradise. When asked if this included himself, he replied not even him, but his Lord wraps him in mercy. This teaches us that no matter how much good we do in our lives, it will never be enough to get us into heaven without the grace of God. We must rely on His mercy and forgiveness for salvation.
