Sahih al-Bukhari 1473 (Book 24, Hadith 75) #1414
Generosity Over Greed

SUMMARY: It is important to be generous and not to be greedy when given something.

Narrated 'Umar: Allah's Messenger used to give me something but I would say to him, "would you give it to a poorer and more needy one than l?" The Prophet (pbuh) said to me, "Take it. If you are given something from this property, without asking for it or having greed for it take it; and if not given, do not run for it".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous with your wealth and possessions; do not have greed in your heart when receiving something from others; use what Allah has blessed you with in a way that pleases Him by being generous towards those less fortunate than yourself.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of generosity over greed. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was giving something to Umar, but Umar asked if there was someone who needed it more than him. The Prophet ﷺ told him that if he was given something without asking for it or having greed for it, he should take it, but if not given, he should not run after it. This hadith encourages us to be generous with our wealth and possessions and reminds us that we should never have greed in our hearts when receiving something from others. We must always remember that Allah has blessed us with so much and we must use what He has blessed us with in a way that pleases Him by being generous towards others who are less fortunate than ourselves.
