Sahih Muslim 2776a (Book 51, Hadith 8) #14095
The Revelation of a Verse at Uhud

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the Companions of Allah's Apostle ﷺ being divided into two groups when they set out for Uhud, and how this led to the revelation of a verse from the Quran.

Zaid b. Thabit reported that Allah's Apostle set out for Uhud. Some of those persons who were with them came back. The Companions of Allah's Apostle were divided in two groups. One group said: We would kill them, and the other one said: No, this should not be done, and it was on this occasion that this verse was revealed:" Why should you, then, be two parties in relation to hypocrites?" (iv. 88).

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow God's teachings , Strive for unity & peace

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about an event that happened when Allah's Apostle and his companions set out for Uhud. During their journey, some people returned back home, which caused the companions to be divided into two groups; one group wanted to kill those who left while the other group disagreed with this idea. As a result of this disagreement, Allah revealed a verse from the Quran asking why there should be two parties in relation to hypocrites. This hadith teaches us that we should not have any divisions among ourselves and that we should always strive for unity and peace instead of conflict or violence. It also reminds us that it is only through following God’s teachings that we can achieve true unity and harmony in our lives.
