Sahih Muslim 2675h (Book 50, Hadith 1) #14020
The Pleasure of Repentance

SUMMARY: Allah is pleased with the repentance of His servants and will draw near to them when they draw near to Him.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger as saying: Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said: I live in the thought of My servant and I am with him as he remembers Me. (The Holy Prophet) further said: By Allah, Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His servant than what one of you would do on finding the lost camel in the waterless desert. When he draws near Me by the span of his hand. I draw near him by the length of a cubit and when he draws near Me by the length of a cubit. I draw near him by the length of a fathom and when he draws near Me walking I draw close to him hurriedly.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of repentance in Islam. It tells us that Allah is very pleased when His servants repent for their sins and come closer to Him. The hadith also mentions that when a servant draws close to Allah by even a span of his hand or a cubit or even walking towards Him then He will draw close to him hurriedly. This shows us how much pleasure it brings to Allah when we repent for our sins and come closer to Him through prayer and good deeds. It also teaches us that no matter how far away we have gone from God due to our wrongdoings He will always be ready and willing accept our repentance if we sincerely turn back towards Him.
