Supplicating for Guidance, Protection and Freedom

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the supplication of Allah's Messenger for guidance, protection from evil, chastity and freedom from want.

Abdullah reported that Allah's Messenger used to supplicate (in these words): " O Allah. I beg of Thee the right guidance, safeguard against evils, chastity and freedom from want".
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَبِي الأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the supplication of Allah's Messenger to God for guidance, protection from evil, chastity and freedom from want. The Prophet Muhammad was known to make this supplication often in order to seek help and guidance in his life. He asked God for right guidance so that he could stay on the path of righteousness; he asked for protection against evils so that he could be safe; he asked for chastity so that his heart would remain pure; and finally he asked for freedom from want so that his needs would be fulfilled. Through this hadith we learn the importance of asking God sincerely with faith in Him to provide us with what we need in our lives. We should also strive to stay on the path of righteousness by following His commands as well as protecting ourselves against any kind of evil or harm. Lastly, we should always remember to remain chaste and free from any kind of materialistic desires or wants which can lead us astray.
