Sahih al-Bukhari 1446 (Book 24, Hadith 49) #1388
The Importance of Charity

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) taught that charity should be given to those who are in need and it should not be kept for oneself.

Narrated Um 'Atiyya: A sheep was sent to me (Nusaiba Al-Ansariya) (in charity) and I sent some of it to 'Aisha. The Prophet asked 'Aisha for something to eat'.Aisha replied that there was nothing except what Nusaiba Al-Ansariya had sent of that sheep. The Prophet said to her, "Bring it as it has reached its place".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of charity and giving to those in need. It was narrated by Um 'Atiyya, Nusaiba Al-Ansariya, and 'Aisha. In this hadith, a sheep was sent to Um Atiyyah as a form of charity. She then sent some of it to Aisha who informed the Prophet that she only had what Nusaiba Al-Ansariya had sent her from the sheep. The Prophet then said that it has reached its place meaning that it should not have been kept for herself but rather given away as charity or sadaqah. This teaches us an important lesson about giving away our wealth or possessions in order to help those who are less fortunate than us and also shows us how generous the Prophet was with his own wealth even though he himself did not have much at all.
