Good Practices and Credit

SUMMARY: The servant does not receive credit for introducing a good practice that is followed after him.

Jarir b. 'Abdullah reported Allah's Messenger as saying: The servant does not introduce good practice which is followed after him. The rest of the hadith is the same.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعِيدٍ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي، إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ هِلاَلٍ الْعَبْسِيُّ، قَالَ قَالَ جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ لاَ يَسُنُّ عَبْدٌ سُنَّةً صَالِحَةً يُعْمَلُ بِهَا بَعْدَهُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ تَمَامَ الْحَدِيثِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the idea of doing good deeds without expecting recognition or reward in return. It teaches us that we should do good deeds for the sake of Allah and not for any other reason. We should be content with knowing that our actions are pleasing to Allah and that He will reward us accordingly. This hadith also encourages us to continue doing good even if we don’t get credit or recognition from others because ultimately it is Allah who will reward us in the end.
