Sahih Muslim 2671b (Book 47, Hadith 12) #13859
Signs of the Last Hour

SUMMARY: This hadith speaks of the signs of the Last Hour, which include a decrease in knowledge, an increase in ignorance and adultery, drinking wine, and a disparity between men and women.

Qatida reported that Anas b. Malik said: May I not narrate to you a hadith which I heard from Allah's Messenger which no one would narrate to you after me who would have personally heard it from him (the Holy Prophet) (as I have the good fortune to do so)? -" It is from the signs of the Last Hour that knowledge would be taken away, ignorance would prevail upon (the world), adultery would become common, wine would be drunk, the number of men will fall short and the women would survive (and thus such a disparity would arise in the number of men and women) that there would be one man to look after fifty women.

QUICK LESSONS:
Learn & acquire knowledge ; strive towards righteousness ; remember Allah’s judgement ; prepare oneself for The Day Of Judgement .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the signs that will occur before the Day of Judgement or The Last Hour. It is narrated by Qatida who heard it from Anas b. Malik who heard it from Allah's Messenger himself. These signs include a decrease in knowledge, an increase in ignorance and adultery, drinking wine, and a disparity between men and women where there would be one man to look after fifty women. These are all warnings for us to take heed so we can prepare ourselves for this day when we will be judged for our actions on Earth. We should strive to learn as much as possible while we still have access to knowledge so that we can use it wisely throughout our lives instead of engaging in activities such as adultery or drunkenness which are prohibited by Islam. We should also remember that no matter how difficult life may seem at times, Allah is always watching over us and He will judge us fairly on The Day of Judgement according to our deeds here on Earth.
