Sahih Muslim 2583 (Book 45, Hadith 79) #13657
The Punishment of Oppressors

SUMMARY: Allah will not let go of the oppressor when He punishes them.

Abu Musa reported Allah's Messenger as saying: Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, grants respite to the oppressor. But when He lays Hand upon him, He does not then let him off. Re (the Holy Prophet) then recited this verse:" Such is the chastisement of thy Lord when He chastises the towns (inhabited by) wrongdoing persons. Surely, His punishment is painful, severe" (xi. 103).

QUICK LESSONS:
Do not oppress or mistreat anyone; Strive for mercy; Be just; Be kind
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about Allah's punishment for those who oppress others. It is said that Allah gives the oppressor a chance to repent and turn away from their wrongdoings, but if they do not, then He will punish them severely. This punishment can be seen in the verse that was recited by Prophet Muhammad, which talks about how towns inhabited by wrongdoers are punished with a painful and severe chastisement from Allah. This hadith teaches us that we should never oppress or mistreat others as it will lead to severe consequences in this life and in the hereafter. We should also strive to be merciful towards others as this is one of the qualities of a true believer.
