The Blessing of Fever

SUMMARY: Fever is a blessing from Allah that expiates the sins of mankind.

Jabir b. Abdullah reported that Allah's Messenger visited Umm Sa'ib or Umm Musayyib and said: Umm Sa'ib or Umm Musayyib. why is it that you are shivering? She said:" It is fever and may it not be blessed by Allah, whereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Don't curse fever for it expiates the sin of the children of Adam just as furnace removes the alloy of iron.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the blessing of fever and how it can be used to expiate the sins of mankind. It was narrated by Jabir b. Abdullah who reported that Allah's Messenger visited Umm Sa'ib or Umm Musayyib and asked why she was shivering. She replied that it was due to fever and he said not to curse it as it removes the sin of Adam's children just like a furnace removes impurities from iron. This hadith teaches us that even something as unpleasant as fever can be seen as a blessing from Allah if we look at it in the right way; for example, by using it to cleanse ourselves from our wrongdoings and become closer to Him through repentance. We should also remember that no matter how difficult life may seem at times, Allah will always provide us with ways to make things better if we are willing to accept them with an open heart and mind.
