Sahih al-Bukhari 1416 (Book 24, Hadith 20) #1360
Giving Charity in Poverty

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) encouraging his followers to give charity, even when they were in poverty.

Narrated Abu Mas'ud Al-Ansari: Whenever Allah's Messenger (pbuh) ordered us to give in charity, we used to go to the market and work as porters and get a Mudd (a special measure of grain) and then give it in charity. (Those were the days of poverty) and today some of us have one hundred thousand.

QUICK LESSONS:
Give charity even if you are poor
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of giving charity, even when one is in poverty. It was narrated by Abu Mas'ud Al-Ansari that whenever the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) asked his followers to give charity, they would go to the market and work as porters and get a Mudd of grain and then give it away. This shows how generous people were during those times despite their lack of resources. Even today, some people have a hundred thousand but still do not practice generosity like before. This hadith encourages us to be generous with whatever we have no matter how little it may be.
