Sahih Muslim 2461b (Book 44, Hadith 160) #13411
Praising Knowledge and Understanding of Islam

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the companions of Abdullah praising him for his knowledge and understanding of Islam.

Abu Ahwas reported: We were in the house of Abu Musa along with some of the companions of 'Abdullah and they were looking at the Holy Book'.Abdullah stood up, whereupon Abu Mas'ud said: I do not know whether Allah's Messenger, has left after him one having a better knowledge (of Islam) than the man who is standing. Abu Musa said: If you say this, that is correct, because he had been present when we had been absent and he was permitted when we were detained.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of knowledge and understanding in Islam. It tells us that even though some companions were absent, they still praised Abdullah for his knowledge and understanding because he was present when they were absent, and was permitted when they were detained. This shows us that it is important to have a good understanding of Islamic teachings so we can be an example to others, even if we are not able to physically be present with them at all times. We should strive to learn more about our faith so that we can help guide others in their journey towards Allah SWT. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us the importance of respecting those who have a better understanding than ourselves, as Abu Mas’ud showed respect for Abdullah by acknowledging his superior knowledge despite being absent from certain events or gatherings.
