Sahih Muslim 2453 (Book 44, Hadith 147) #13398
Refusing an Offered Drink

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was offered a drink by Umm Aiman, but he refused to accept it.

Anas reported that Allah's Messenger went to Umm Aiman and I went along with him and she served him a drink in a vessel and he reported that the narrator said: I do not know whether it was because of the fasting (or for any other reason) that he (the Holy Prophet) refused to accept that. She raised her voice and showed annoyance to him.

QUICK LESSONS:
Remain patient and polite in difficult situations
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's refusal of a drink offered to him by Umm Aiman. It is said that he refused because he was fasting, however this is not certain. Umm Aiman showed her annoyance at his refusal, but the Prophet remained calm and did not respond in kind. This hadith teaches us that we should remain patient and polite even when faced with difficult situations or people who are angry with us. We should also be mindful of our actions and words as they can have an effect on those around us, even if we do not intend for them to do so.
