Sahih Muslim 2439a (Book 44, Hadith 115) #13366
Discernment of Emotions

SUMMARY: This hadith explains how the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was able to tell when 'A'isha was pleased or annoyed with him.

'A'isha reported: Allah's Messenger said to me: I can well discern when you are pleased with me and when you are annoyed with me. I said: How do you discern it? Thereupon be said: When you are pleased with me you say;" No, by the Lord of Muhammad," and when you are annoyed with me, you say:" No, by the Lord of Ibrahim". I said: Allah's Messenger, by Allah, I in fact leave your name (when I am annoyed with you).

QUICK LESSONS:
Be respectful towards others in relationships; Be aware and mindful; Honor one another's feelings and emotions.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the discernment of emotions between two people. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was able to tell when his wife, 'A'isha, was pleased or annoyed with him. He noticed that when she was pleased with him, she would say "No, by the Lord of Muhammad," and when she was annoyed with him, she would say "No, by the Lord of Ibrahim". This shows that even in a relationship as close as marriage, it is important to be aware and mindful of one another's feelings and emotions. It also teaches us that we should always strive to be respectful towards each other in our relationships.
