Revelation of a Verse from the Quran

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the revelation of a verse from the Quran which was revealed in relation to six people, including Sa'd and Ibn Mas'ud. The polytheists asked the Prophet not to keep such people near him, but this verse was revealed in response.

Sa'd reported: This verse was revealed in relation to six persons and I and Ibn Mas'ud were amongst them. The polytheists said to him (the Holy Prophet): Do not keep such persons near you. It was upon this that (this verse was revealed):" Drive not away those who call upon their Lord morning and evening desiring only His pleasure" (vi. 52).
حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنِ الْمِقْدَامِ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ سَعْدٍ، فِيَّ نَزَلَتْ ‏{‏ وَلاَ تَطْرُدِ الَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُمْ بِالْغَدَاةِ وَالْعَشِيِّ‏}‏ قَالَ نَزَلَتْ فِي سِتَّةٍ أَنَا وَابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ مِنْهُمْ وَكَانَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ قَالُوا لَهُ تُدْنِي هَؤُلاَءِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a verse that was revealed in relation to six people, including Sa'd and Ibn Mas'ud. The polytheists were asking the Prophet not to keep these people near him, but this verse was revealed as an answer. It states that those who call upon their Lord morning and evening desiring only His pleasure should not be driven away. This teaches us that we should always strive for Allah's pleasure by calling on Him regularly and seeking His guidance throughout our lives. We should also respect those who do so even if they are different from us or have different beliefs than us.
