Sahih Muslim 2392d (Book 44, Hadith 26) #13277
Strength in Serving Others

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the strength of Abu Bakr and Umar in drawing water from a tank to quench the thirst of people.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger as saying: While I was asleep I saw myself drawing water from my tank in order to quench the thirst of the people that there came to me Abu Bakr. He took hold of the leathern bucket from my hand so that he should serve water to the people. He drew two bucketfuls and there was some weakness in his drawing (Allah may forgive him). Then there came Ibn Khattab and he took hold of that, and I did not see a person stronger than he (drawing water) until the people went away with their thirst quenched and the tank filled with water.

QUICK LESSONS:
Serve others with your best efforts no matter how weak or strong you are

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the strength of two companions, Abu Bakr and Umar, when they were serving others. It was narrated by Abu Huraira who reported that Prophet Muhammad saw himself in a dream drawing water from a tank to quench the thirst of people. Then, Abu Bakr took over and drew two bucketfuls with some weakness in his drawing. After him, Umar took over and he was seen as stronger than anyone else until all people were satisfied with their thirst quenched and the tank filled with water. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive to serve others with our best efforts no matter how weak or strong we are because it is an act of worshiping Allah SWT. We should also be humble like Abu Bakr who accepted his weaknesses while serving others instead of being proud like Umar who showed off his strength while doing so.
