Sahih Muslim 2328a (Book 43, Hadith 108) #13133
Taking Revenge for Allah

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad never took revenge for anything unless it was something made inviolable by Allah, and he only fought in the cause of Allah.

'A'isha reported that Allah's Messenger never beat anyone with his hand, neither a woman nor a servant, but only, in the case when he had been fighting in the cause of Allah and he never took revenge for anything unless the things made inviolable by Allah were made violable; he then took revenge for Allah, the Exalted and Glorious.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be patient and forgiving even if wronged; Fight only when necessary to protect what is sacred according to Islam; Do so in the name of God rather than out personal vengeance or anger .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's attitude towards taking revenge. He never took revenge on anyone with his hands, not even a woman or a servant. He only fought in battles when it was in the cause of Allah and when something that was made inviolable by God was violated. In this case, he would take revenge for God's sake. This hadith teaches us to be patient and forgiving even if we are wronged and to only fight if it is necessary to protect what is sacred according to Islam. We should also remember that any fighting we do should be done in the name of God and not out of personal vengeance or anger.
