Sahih al-Bukhari 130 (Book 3, Hadith 72) #130
Wet Dreams and Resemblance of Sons to Mothers

SUMMARY: A woman must take a bath after having a wet dream, and the son usually resembles his mother.

Narrated Um Salama: Um-Sulaim came to Allah's Messenger and said, "Verily, Allah is not shy of (telling you) the truth. Is it necessary for a woman to take a bath after she has a wet dream (nocturnal sexual discharge?) The Prophet replied, "Yes, if she notices a discharge". Um Salama, then covered her face and asked, "O Allah's Messenger ! Does a woman get a discharge?" He replied, "Yes, let your right hand be in dust (An Arabic expression you say to a person when you contradict his statement meaning "you will not achieve goodness"), and that is why the son resembles his mother".

QUICK LESSONS:
Taking baths regularly , Being aware of one's body , Following Islamic teachings even when asleep

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of taking a bath after having a wet dream. A wet dream is when a person has an involuntary sexual discharge while sleeping. In this hadith, Um-Sulaim asked Prophet Muhammad ﷺ if it was necessary for women to take a bath after having such an experience. The Prophet replied that it was indeed necessary for them to do so if they noticed any discharge. He then went on to explain that this is why sons usually resemble their mothers in some way or another. This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions and take care of our bodies by following Islamic teachings even when we are asleep or unaware of what is happening around us. It also reminds us that children often look like their parents in some way or another which can be attributed to genetics as well as environmental factors such as upbringing and lifestyle choices made by the parents during pregnancy and beyond.
