The Devil's Influence in Dreams

SUMMARY: Dreams can be a result of the devil's influence and should not be taken seriously.

Jabir reported Allah's Messenger as saying: There came to him (the Holy Prophet) a desert Arab and said: I saw in a dream that I had been beheaded and I had been following it (the severed head). Allah's Apostle reprimanded him saying: Do not inform about the vain sporting of devil with you during the night.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the influence of the devil on dreams. It is narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari that a desert Arab came to Prophet Muhammad and told him that he had seen a dream in which he was beheaded and was following his severed head. In response to this, Prophet Muhammad reprimanded him saying that one should not inform others about such vain sporting of the devil with them during the night. This hadith teaches us that we should not take our dreams too seriously as they may just be an illusion created by Satan to mislead us from our true purpose in life. We must remember that Allah alone knows what is best for us and it is only He who can guide us on our path towards righteousness.
