Sahih Muslim 2249d (Book 40, Hadith 16) #12966
Respectful Address of People

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the proper way to address people, and how to refer to them in a respectful manner.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger so many ahadith and one of them is this that Allah's Messenger said: None of you should say: Supply drink to your lord, feed your lord, help your lord in performing ablution, and none of you should say: My Lord. He should say: My chief, my patron; and none of you should say: My bondman, my slave-girl, but simply say: My boy, my girl, my servant.

It is important that we use polite words when referring to people, such as saying “my chief” or “my patron” instead of saying “my lord”. We should also avoid using terms like “bondman” or “slave-girl” and instead use terms like “boy”, “girl” or “servant”.
