Sahih al-Bukhari 1342 (Book 23, Hadith 97) #1289
Mourning for a Loved One

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was deeply saddened by the death of his daughter and asked if anyone had not been intimate with their spouse the night before. Abu Talha answered in the affirmative and was asked to bury her.

Narrated Anas: We were in the funeral procession of the daughter of Allah's Messenger and Allah's Messenger was sitting near the grave and I saw his eyes full of tears. He said, "Is there anyone amongst you who did not have sexual relations with his wife last night?" Abu Talha replied in the affirmative. And so Allah's Apostle told him to get down in her grave and he got down in her grave and buried her.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect your loved ones who have passed away; show them compassion even after they are gone.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the deep love and grief that Prophet Muhammad felt for his daughter when she passed away. He asked if anyone had not been intimate with their spouse, as it is recommended to abstain from such activities during mourning, and Abu Talha answered in the affirmative. As a result, he was asked to bury her which shows how much respect he held for her even after she passed away. It also serves as an example of how we should treat our loved ones who have passed away; with respect, dignity, and love.
