Sahih Muslim 2199e (Book 39, Hadith 85) #12823
The Permissibility of Incantation

SUMMARY: Allah's Messenger prohibited incantation, but allowed it when the people of Amr b. Hazm recited it to him, saying that whoever is competent to do good should do so.

Jabir reported Allah's Messenger prohibited incantation. Then the people of Amr b. Hazm came to Allah's Messenger and said: We know an incantation which we use for curing the sting of the scorpion but you have prohibited it. They recited (the words of incantation) before him, whereupon he said: I do not see any harm (in it), so he who amongst you is competent to do good to his brother should do that.

In this hadith, Allah's Messenger initially prohibited incantations but then allowed them after the people of Amr b. Hazm recited an incantation for curing a scorpion sting before him. He then said that whoever is competent to do good should do so, suggesting that if someone has knowledge and skill in using an incantation for healing purposes then they should use it as long as it does not contradict Islamic teachings and beliefs.
