Sahih al-Bukhari 128 (Book 3, Hadith 70) #128
The Power of Testifying Sincerely

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of testifying sincerely that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is his Apostle, as it will save one from the Hell-fire.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: "Once Mu'adh was along with Allah's Messenger as a companion rider. Allah's Messenger said, "O Mu'adh bin Jabal". Mu'adh replied, "Labaik and Sa'daik. O Allah's Messenger !" Again the Prophet said, "O Mu'adh!" Mu'adh said thrice, "Labaik and Sa'daik, O Allah's Messenger !" Allah's Messenger said, "There is none who testifies sincerely that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is his Apostle, except that Allah, will save him from the Hell-fire". Mu'adh said, "O Allah's Messenger ! Should I not inform the people about it so that they may have glad tidings?" He replied, "When the people hear about it, they will solely depend on it". Then Mu'adh narrated the above-mentioned Hadith just before his death, being afraid of committing sin (by not telling the knowledge).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrated by Anas bin Malik speaks about the power of testifying sincerely that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is his Apostle. Mu'adh was with Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when he asked him three times if he should inform people about this so they can have glad tidings. Prophet ﷺ replied that when people hear about it, they will solely depend on it. This hadith emphasizes on how important it is for us to testify sincerely in order to be saved from hellfire. It also teaches us not to rely too much on our deeds alone, as we must also believe in what Allah has promised us through His Messenger ﷺ in order for us to receive its reward. We must remember that our faith should always come first before anything else and we should never forget or neglect this testimony even if we are doing good deeds because without faith, those deeds would not be accepted by Allah SWT.
