Sahih Muslim 2177d (Book 39, Hadith 40) #12778
Respect for Others' Seats

SUMMARY: It is wrong to make someone stand up and take their seat.

Ibn 'Umar reported Allah's Messenger as saying: None should make one'& brother stand and then sit at his place (and it was common with) Ibn Umar that when any person stood in the company (with a view to making room for him) he did not sit there.

QUICK LESSONS:
Show kindness towards others by not making them stand while you take their place; Be generous by offering your own seat when needed; Treat everyone with respect regardless of who they are or where they come from; Always think about how your actions will affect those around you before doing anything.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of respecting others and not taking advantage of them. It is wrong to make someone stand up and take their seat, as it shows a lack of respect for the other person. We should always be mindful of how our actions affect others, and strive to treat everyone with kindness and respect. This hadith also reminds us that we should be generous in giving up our seats when needed, so that everyone can feel comfortable in our presence.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that we should always show kindness towards one another, even if it means giving up something we want or need ourselves. He said “None should make one’s brother stand and then sit at his place” which means that no one should force someone else to give up their seat just so they can have it themselves. We must remember this lesson whenever we are in a group setting, whether it is at home or out in public - always be respectful towards those around you!
